Three ways to work together
Most quotes are built from one of three models. Which one applies depends on how well-defined the work is at the point of booking — not on how large it is.
Fixed deliverable
A defined output at a defined price. A film, an explainer, a poster, an episode. Scope, revision rounds and delivery formats are agreed up front.
Best for direct clients who want cost certainty.
Day rate
Booked time against an open or evolving brief. Banded by discipline, because a 3D and VFX day and an offline edit day are not the same day.
Best for production companies, agencies and overflow work.
Retainer
A multi-month engagement combining strategy, production and post against a content plan. Priced below the sum of its parts in exchange for committed volume.
Best for businesses building an ongoing content engine.
Reading the prices. All rates exclude VAT. Film and animation deliverable prices include edit, colour grade, music, subtitles and two revision rounds unless stated otherwise. Anything marked from is a starting point that moves with scope, cast, locations and licence.
Film & video production
Events, branded content and advertising, corporate film and factual entertainment. Production days cover the shoot; deliverable prices cover everything from rushes to final master.
How to read this section. Most projects are two costs, not one: a production day for the shoot, plus a deliverable price for each finished film. They are added together.
A worked example. A founder-led brand film, shot in one day with a standard crew, is £1,300 + £1,100 = £2,400.
When you only pay once. Films shot on the same day share that day’s cost — two films from one standard crew day is £1,300 + two deliverable prices. And anything cut from footage that already exists, such as short-form clips, ad cutdowns and reversions, needs no production day at all.
Production days
| Crew configuration | Includes | Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Half day, solo operator | Up to 4 hours, self-shooting director, camera, audio and lighting kit | £450 |
| Full day, solo operator | Up to 10 hours, self-shooting director, full kit package included | £750 |
| Full day, standard crew | Director, camera operator, sound recordist, single-camera package | £1,300 |
| Full day, multi-camera crew | Director, two operators, sound, lighting technician, full grip package | £1,850 |
| Additional camera operator | Per day, camera package included | £450 |
| Sound recordist | Per day, radio mics and boom package included | £450 |

| Drone operator | Per day, CAA-licensed, aircraft and insurance included | £550 |
| Studio hire, Edinburgh | Per day, lit space with sound treatment, without crew | £350 |
This is the shoot only — the finished film is priced separately below. Production days run to 10 hours including setup and wrap. Overtime is charged at one-tenth of the day rate per hour. Pre-production, direction and shot listing for a booked shoot day are included; standalone strategy sessions are priced under Strategy.

Film poster design
Key art and poster design for short films, independent features and festival campaigns. Concept routes are developed from the script, the stills or the cut — whichever exists at the point of briefing.
How to read this section. Choose one option from Key art & concepts — they are alternatives sized to the job, not steps you work through. Everything under Craft & components and Formats, delivery & licence is then added as the commission requires.
A worked example. A feature one-sheet with custom title lettering, a typeset billing block and print-ready delivery is £1,600 + £550 + £180 + £150 = £2,480.
Craft is charged once, not per poster. A title treatment is drawn once and then carries across the one-sheet, the teaser, every character poster and every format adaptation in the same commission. The same goes for the billing block and any commissioned illustration.
Licence and buyout. The included licence covers the film’s own release worldwide. Paid placement is licensed per territory for one release window. A distributor wanting to own the artwork outright buys it out at from twice the design fee — a £1,600 one-sheet from £3,200, a £3,350 campaign from £6,700 — rising for worldwide all-media. Copyright stays with Flayr FX Limited until that assignment is signed.
Going out digital only? Every commission is delivered as digital masters as standard, so a festival, streaming and social release needs no print deliverables at all. The Digital release pack is built for exactly that; print-ready press spec is the only line you would skip.
Key art & concepts
| Deliverable | Detail | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Short film / festival poster | One concept route, two revision rounds, finished artwork masters | £450 |
| Teaser poster | Two concept routes, pre-release treatment, finished artwork masters | £900 |
| Feature one-sheet | Three concept routes, finished artwork masters | £1,600 |
| Digital release pack Digital only | Portrait key art, 16:9 streaming and VOD key art, and the six-format digital pack — no print deliverables | £2,200 |
| Key art campaign Best value | One-sheet, teaser, two character posters, six-format digital pack, billing block and print-ready delivery | £3,350 |
| Character / cast poster | Each, developed from approved key art | £450 |
| Additional concept route | A further distinct direction at the concept stage | £350 |
Craft & components
Charged once per film, not once per poster. A title treatment is drawn once and then carries across the one-sheet, the teaser, every character poster and every format adaptation in the same commission. None of these are included in the tiers above, except where the key art campaign states otherwise.
| Component | Detail | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Title treatment / film logo | Custom lettering or type design, supplied as vector | £550 |
| Billing block setup | Typesetting to contract, credit order and compression | £180 |
| Photo retouching & compositing | Per day — cast cut-outs, montage, grade matching | £395 |
| Custom illustration | Hand-drawn or painted key art | from £750 |
| Photography art direction | Per shoot day — key art shoot planning and on-set direction | £750 |
Formats, delivery & licence
| Item | Detail | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Streaming / VOD key art | 16:9 recomposed from approved artwork — rebuilt for landscape, not cropped — plus square and portrait platform tiles | £450 |

| Digital campaign pack | Six formats, artwork adapted rather than rescaled | £550 |
| Print-ready press spec | Bleed, colour profile, proofing and printer liaison — only needed if the artwork goes to physical print | £150 |
| Festival laurel update | Per round of additions to an existing poster | £75 |
| Localisation / language version | Each, typeset from supplied translation | £145 |
| Festival, online & social licence Free | Worldwide, for the life of the film’s release — festival submissions, the film’s own site and social, press and EPK | Included |
| Theatrical & out-of-home licence | Paid placement and print runs. Per territory, for one release window of up to 12 months; renewals and further territories quoted separately | +50% |
| Full buyout / distributor transfer | Assignment of artwork rights, worldwide and in perpetuity. Subject to clearance of any licensed stock or fonts used in the artwork | from 2×design fee |
| Stock imagery & licensed fonts | Sourced on your behalf | Cost +15% |
| Rush | Delivery inside five working days | +30% |
How a poster commission runs. Concept routes come first as flat visuals. You select one route to develop, and the two included revision rounds are spent refining it — not switching between directions. Selecting a second route to develop in parallel is charged as an additional concept route.

Post-production for production companies
Day rates for production companies, agencies and studios booking capacity rather than a defined deliverable — either my own time, or a staffed suite where Flayr FX supplies the facility and the freelance operator. Rates are banded by discipline. Remote by default, in person across Scotland and the north of England on request.
Day rates by discipline
| Discipline | Hourly equiv.Not bookable | Half day | Day | Week · 5 days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Offline edit, assembly & versioning | (£66) | £245 | £395 | £1,775 |
| Online finishing, conform & grade | (£75) | £280 | £450 | £2,025 |

| 3D animation & VFX compositing | (£92) | £340 | £550 | £2,475 |
| Creative direction & consultancy | (£125) | £465 | £750 | £3,375 |
Rates are for a senior post-production specialist with 15+ years of broadcast and commercial experience. A day is 10 hours; a half day is 5. Overtime beyond the booked day is charged per hour at one-tenth of the day rate, and evening or weekend working carries the +30% uplift below. Weekly rates carry a 10% discount; blocks of 20 days or more carry 15%. Minimum booking is a half day. A half day is charged at 62% of the day rate, not 50% — a half day still carries setup, handover and a split diary. Weekly rates are five days less 10%, rounded down. The hourly column is shown for comparison only — post-production is not booked by the hour.
Facility rates — suite and operator supplied
A bundled fee, not a room hire. This is for production companies buying finished work rather than booking my time. The rate covers the suite and everything it costs to run — software licences, project storage, power, insurance and machine time — together with the freelance operator engaged for the job. Flayr FX holds the freelance contracts and carries the booking risk. Minimum one day.
| Suite | What the fee covers | Day | Week · 5 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edit suite & editor | Workstation, project storage, Premiere and Resolve, and the freelance editor engaged for the job | £550 | £2,475 |
| Sound suite & engineer | Treated booth for VO, ADR and mix, Pro Tools, and the freelance sound engineer | £600 | £2,700 |
| Motion / 3D suite & artist | After Effects and 3D-capable seat, render capacity, and the freelance motion designer | £650 | £2,925 |
| Grade suite & colourist | Colour-critical monitoring, control surface, and the freelance colourist | £750 | £3,375 |
Weekly rates are five days less 10%, as above. Overtime beyond the booked day is charged at one-tenth of the day rate per hour. Where a job needs two suites running in parallel, each is charged at its own rate.
